  On Thursday, 10-may-2012, Caroll Shelby died, aged 89.

  Originally a chicken farmer, he became a race car driver until 1959, when heart problems brought his successful racing career to an end, so he switched again to focus on designing and building powerfully fast, brash, muscle cars that he loved to drive, including some great icons:

  
  

  

   

  Even at 84 years of age, while a consultant on developing the new high-powered Ford GT, he still loved driving fast, and test drove the new Ford Mustang GT500 on a race track at 150mph.

  I didnt realize until today that he was also one of the world longest living heart transplant recipients, having received a heart transplant in 1990.

  (Reuters) - Forget farm-to-table. The newest locavore trend in U.S. cities comes from the backyard: eggs out of the urban chicken coop.

  
  

  "It is part of the creative class trend," said Orlando city commissioner Patty Sheehan, who pushed through an urban chicken pilot program last week.

  
  

  Within hours after it was adopted by city commissioners, all 25 permits were scooped up and a waiting list of 25 formed.

  
  

  "We had people waiting outside of city hall to sign up. I've never had anything that popular, to be quite honest," Sheehan said.

  
  

  "The people that are interested in it are the young professionals, people that enjoy growing their own food. It's part of the progressive food movement."

  
  

  Raising backyard chickens in the city is growing in popularity nationwide, driven by Americans' desire for fresher, local, wholesome and safe food, said Dennis Mudge, the University of Florida's agriculture extension agent in Orlando.

  
  

  "Everything is moving toward raising your own food and this is just a natural way to do that. It's really picked up and, besides, it's so much fun," Mudge added.

  A Leica camera prototype made in 1923 fetched 2.16 million euros ($2.79 million) at auction on Saturday, setting a new world record for a camera.

  
  

  The camera, an exemplar of the pre-production Leica 0-Series, had been expected to go for between 600,000 and 800,000 euros and bidding started at 300,000 euros at the Galerie Westlicht in Vienna.

  
  

  The hammer fell at 1.8 million euros, and the final price with tax was 2.16 million euros. The buyer chose to remain anonymous.

  
  

  Only 25 pre-production O-Series were made to test the market for 35mm cameras before full production began in 1925, and just 12 are known still to exist.

  
  

  The prices such cameras fetch are a barometer of the growing interest for early photographic materials.

  
  

  The previous record set last year, also for an O-Series, was 1.32 million euros, more than 800,000 euros below the new record, while in 2007 the first such camera to be auctioned fetched just 336,000 euros.

  
  

  In a sign that old photographs are also much in demand, a 1855 daguerreotype by French photographer Jean-Baptiste Louis Gros showing a Paris fountain sold for 228,000 euros, while a 1954 photograph from the Studio Visages/Raymond Fabre showing Spanish painter Pablo Picasso went for 24,000 euros.
